Welcome to the 2023 Cops and Writers Interactive Conference, aka, Cop Camp!
Here is a brief itinerary that is subject to change.
May 31, 2023
7:00 pm -? The lobby bar. An Informal get together at the DoubleTree by Hilton
Appleton, 150 Nicolet Road Appleton, WI. 54914. This will be a chance for everyone to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.
June 1, 2023
Breakfast on your own. The hotel has a breakfast on site and snacks. The bus to the academy will leave around 8:45 am to the Fox Valley Public Safety Training Center where we will spend the bulk of our days. The morning will be spent on hands-on police training followed by catered lunch that will be provided as part of your conference fees.
We will break for afternoon classes starting with our special guest, Honoree Corder.
Honoree Corder, a publishing strategist, TEDx & keynote speaker, and author of over 50 books, including You Must Write a Book and You Must Market Your Book.
Her superpower is helping authors reach their potential and guiding them toward success. As someone who has known her for years, I can attest that she is a true professional and I am thrilled to have her on board. She will be giving a class on marketing and motivation!
Michael Anderle the founder of 20BooksTo50K®and LMBPN will talk to us about the state of publishing today and the benefits of indie publishing.
Training at 4:30 pm. The bus will take you back to the hotel.
June 2, 2023

Afternoon speaker will be California Game Warden Lt. John Nores (retired).
A big portion of his John’s career was battling Mexican drug cartels that were growing multi-million-dollar marijuana crops on national and state land. These criminals were heavily armed and used toxic chemicals that are banned in this country, destroying the land and wildlife on location and away.
He has also written three books regarding his work and has been a guest on many other podcasts and television shows.
Racine County Assistant District Attorney Sharon Reich (retired) will give us a class on criminal justice and how cases are prosecuted in the United States.
Training at 4:30 pm. The bus will take you back to the hotel.
6:00 pm: Group dinner at location to be determined. Let’s have a nice dinner together and talk police work and writing!
June 3, 2023

Afternoon speaker will be Anne Schwartz! Anne Schwartz is a Pulitzer Prize nominee. Anne has recently released the book, Monster: The True Story of the Jeffrey Dahmer Murders
Anne was the reporter who broke the Jeffrey Dahmer story in Milwaukee and later became the PIO (Public Information Officer) for the Milwaukee Police Department.
Anne visited Dahmer in prison and has spoken at great length with him and the police officers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and detectives involved with this case.
Det. Adam Richardson will be educating us on the position of detective. Many of you know Adam through his Writers Detective Bureau Podcast, Facebook group, and courses for writers. Adam has been helping writers for years and is a natural teacher.
Training at 4:30 pm. The bus will take you back to the hotel.
7:00 pm - ? Informal get together at the hotel bar. For some, this will be a chance to say goodbye due to travel, and others, a chance to ask questions from the hosts or guest speakers.
June 4, 2023
9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Optional) Debrief at the hotel.
This will be your chance to ask questions for any of our experts and offer opinions of the conference.
Transportation

Food
The hotel has a van that will take us back and forth to the academy. They are also available for pickups and drop-offs to and from the Appleton airport. They might be able to get us around to downtown Appleton for dinner, if not, there are also Ubers and RJ, and I will have our personal vehicles to help taxi people around.
The hotel has food and drinks. There are also plenty of restaurants near the hotel. Nobody will go hungry. We will also have coffee, water, and other drinks in the classroom. Lunch on June 1-3 is part of your conference fee. There will be several choices from the caterer. RJ promises that the food is good. There are also vending machines at the academy for snacks.
